Nick Öhlo: Eclectic Spin on Graphic Design

Crazy Drawings with Vintage Vibes

Nick Öhlo is an Italy-based illustrator with a background in graphic and industrial design. Spontaneous ideas and textured vintage vibes give his cartoonish pieces an honest feel. While his characters are unexpected and fun, at the same time, they carry a profound message.

I like to describe my artworks as crazy drawings with some vintage vibes. I think anti-style and funny are also two words that can well describe the aesthetic of my artworks.

Mixing commissioned work with personal projects, the artist can be creative both while following a brief and while following his own inspiration and ideas. Öhlo is inspired by everything around him, from friends to nature, providing him with a variety of subjects and ideas. His drawings roll through a range of emotions and attitudes, defining archetypes, and reinterpreting the world around us.

Every time that I finish one drawing I say to myself “wow this is the best one!”, but after a few days another better idea arrives. So I just try to do my best in each one!

Nick Öhlo is imaginative and open-minded, approaching every subject in his distinctive way. Vibrant, emotive, and inspiring are among the words that describe the illustrator’s eclectic body of work. Aware of his lack of traditional art education, Öhlo has learned to believe in his artistic abilities as more and more people enjoy his crazy characters.

In this weird period of quarantine, I’m receiving more collaboration inquiry from independent magazines or little commissions, and for me, this is amazing! I didn’t study fine art or illustration, so seeing people interested in my artworks is something very special.

At this moment, Nick Öhlo adds movement to his characters as he works on an animation project, in which his funny characters find themselves in crazy situations. The artist’s exuberance is catchy, and we can hardly wait to see the results!
